A message from
Sarah Wroblewski

I’m the mother of Declan, a brave boy diagnosed with stage 4 brain cancer when he was just three years old. He underwent a 10-hour brain surgery and then earned a long term stay at Boston Children’s Hospital. Declan underwent 6 rounds of high dose chemotherapy and 3 rounds of stem cell transplant. It is so hard to watch your child endure some of the hardest days of their lives and battle through excruciating pain. We spent nearly 9 months under the care of the incredible team at Boston Children’s Hospital. Still... It was not home, but I found comfort in the small things and appreciated the support from others. This is why, when Belle Box Co. asked me to collaborate with a caregiver box, I was more than eager to participate. These items were selected to support families who have no choice but to brave the storm they never chose to be in. Water... if anything... drink water. Having a personal water bottle with the option to add electrolytes made staying hydrated easier than sipping from paper cups each day. The hospital environment is very sterile and very dry. Along with staying hydrated, having a moisturizer was the unexpected necessity during our extended stays. During some of the toughest moments and days...having some assistance like Nuero Mints to remain calm and keep my child’s fear at bay was important. An item I would have never thought of before this experience. Lastly, there were times when so many questions would come to mind, especially in the middle of the night. Having a source to document these thoughts and put them on paper is essential for long term stays of a critically ill child. Writing also became my outlet during his treatment and why I really pushed to have a journal in this caregiver box.
